Can my child have a water bottle in the classroom?
Our classroom has a sink and a water fountain, but children may also bring their own water bottle with them. Please make sure it is a leak-proof bottle that can be easily opened and closed.

My child usually takes the bus, but I need to pick him/her up. What should I do?
If you know ahead of time that your child will be going home a different way than usual (For example, she usually takes the bus, but you will be picking her up.), you may send a note with your child in the morning.
If it is a last minute change, you can also call the office at 847-998-5055 and they will let me know. Remember that often I am not able to check email or messages on my classroom phone until after the children are gone for the day, so in these instances it is best to call the main office number.
If there is a consistent day that your child will be going home a different way (For example, every Monday you will pick her up because she has piano), you can let me know and I will mark that on my master dismissal schedule.
**We do not always get a list in advance of who is signed up for after school classes held at Westbrook (chess, Amazing Minds, etc):, so PLEASE send a note at the beginning of the session so that I will know to send your child to that class.**
**We cannot rely on a child’s word that there is a change in pick up schedule. You must send a note or call the office.**

When does my child visit the library?
The LRC (Learning Resource Center) at Westbrook is flexibly scheduled, which means that teachers sign up for times that fit into their schedule and best support their learning outcomes for the given week. Though we will not always visit the LRC on the same day of the week, books are always due one week from the day they are checked out. First graders may check out one book for the first half of the year and two books beginning in January.

Do you celebrate birthdays in the classroom?
Can my child bring in something to pass out to the class?
Birthdays are a chance to promote classroom community and friendship. We will celebrate your child in a special way, complete with a birthday song and a class-made birthday book!
Summer birthdays will be celebrated during the last few weeks of school in late May/early June.
**Per district policy, food or drink treats are not allowed.**
It is our goal to put the focus of the child’s birthday on the child , not on what he/she brings. It is not necessary to send any type of take-home treat to pass out to the class. However, if you decide to send something in, it must be non-edible. Examples include stickers, pencils or coloring books. Or you may choose to donate a book to our classroom library. Remember, no food or drink may be brought in or passed out to take home.
